Never ever put something untrue on your resume. Don’t exaggerate your skills either. If you can barely speak French, don’t write that you speak it fluently. It may impress the employer at first, but it’s bound to get you into trouble sooner or later.

This reminds me of a story that one of my clients told me about a man who applied for a job as a machinist. On his resume he stated that he was proficient in using a specialized machine. Well, this did get him the interview and the job, but when it came time to use the machine he was incompetent. We all know how that story ended… and it wasn’t with a specialized training course!
