So, what does networking have to do with Valentine’s Day? Sometimes, everything!
Those of you who’ve already watched my free “How to Master Networking Events in 3 Simple Steps” webinar already know the answer. But for those of you who haven’t signed up for the Thursday evening or Saturday morning replay, let me share the connection.
Networking is all about connecting with people to give and receive value from one another. That value can be in the form of a new career or business opportunity; or it might be a volunteering opportunity (that’s fulfilling in and of itself) that leads to another kind of opportunity; or it might be discovering a great recipe, book or movie! And from time to time — as it was in my case — it can lead to love!
It was in 1995 that I reluctantly attended a social networking event. I really didn’t feel like meeting new people or socializing, but at the insistence of a good friend I went. In retrospect thank goodness I did, as it was at this very event that I met the woman who would become my wife. We introduced ourselves and during our discussion learned that we both had an interest in martial arts. Who knew that our mutual “martial arts” interest would lead to a “marital masterpiece”? Well… okay, maybe not quite a masterpiece. When you throw in a couple of kids, it’s probably more like an amateur collage of abstract and expressionist art (think “The Scream” painting by Edvard Munch), with a few cartoons thrown in for fun! All joking aside, we are still enjoying the journey and art of creating a life together.
So, in celebration of Valentine’s Day, I encourage you to get out there and start networking. Through networking you can certainly advance your career or business… and who knows, maybe even your love life!
