Stop, If You Want To Move Forward

StopToMoveForward

We live in a crazy, busy world. We have texts, emails and phone calls constantly coming through, family and community commitments and other responsibilities. Do you wonder when it will ever stop?

There have been times in my life when I felt my whole world was burning around me and I only had a bucket of water to put out the inferno. Do I pour it all on one section just to have the fire start again or do I drop a little bit of water here and there in the hope of making a difference?

When your world feels like it is spinning out of control try implementing these 4 R’s to get you back on track:

 1)    Rest: Sometimes just stopping what you are doing will help to keep stress and anxiety at bay until you can recharge. I have found the more I try and struggle in my mental quicksand, the worst my situation becomes. This is why taking mini-vacations, “stay-cations” or even naps are important. Like machinery, anyone who continues to work excessively will eventually burn out. We only have one body so be kind and take care of it.

 2)    Reflect: When I look at my challenge with rested eyes I am able to tackle the situation with a clearer head. Doing something consistently one way and expecting different results is considered to be insanity. Reflection is a good way to identify where you are, where you want to go and perhaps discover a new or different path to get there.

 3)    Reset: Once you have identified and gathered what you need to move forward, determine what steps or actions you need to do to get you back on track. Never start large because this may overwhelm you. Instead, consider what small thing(s) you can start that will make a difference.  Create a measurable plan to get and keep you moving forward.

 4)    Resume: Move forward with your measurable plan and check it regularly to ensure you are on course. Within no time, you will find your situation will start to change… in most cases… for the better.

So instead of wondering when the craziness will stop, stop and implement these 4 R’s.

In closing, I will leave you with this following quote:

“No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.” – Albert Einstein.

    Thanks Colin.

You remind us that In our mindset to keep up, we often forget about the power of rest.
